Golden Book of Keepers

Walkthrough

Frob the switch in the ceiling of the room where you begin the mission to open a secret door into a shed. Head outside, wander along the hedged paths and turn left (N). Pull a noisemaker arrow out of the hedge and walk towards the front entrance where 2 guards are standing on the porch. Jump to get high enough to take the Hatch key from one of the guards (The Hatch key on Insane (expert) is worn by the guard standing at the far side of the front doors. When playing Insane, the direct route to the hatch is not available as trees block the way but you can still get to it. Sink a rope arrow into the hedge beside the wall that runs around the outside of the grounds and drop down into the area (south side of mansion) where the basement hatch is located.)

Alternate ways in that can be used on all difficulty settings: You can rope arrow up onto the roof above the front entry and rope arrow down the far side. Walk around the corner of the building and past the peasant standing by the fire. Shoot a rope arrow into the underside of the balcony and another rope arrow into the balcony roof. Climb to the balcony and frob a switch above the door then climb to the balcony roof. From here you can get onto the castle roof. Climb down the chimney and you'll end up in the kitchen fireplace.
Another option is to rope arrow up to the balcony above the front doors and smash the wooden crosspieces on the window to climb into the Library.

Retrace your steps south then turn east along the side of the building. Pick up a moss arrow from the plants and keep an eye out for a wooden hatch set into the ground. Pick up a moss arrow lying nearby then unlock the hatch with the Hatch key and climb down into the basement.

Open the door and enter a basement storage room. Pick up a gold wine bottle (+50) from the shelves to your right then take the basement key and your Favorite Wine Bottle, which acts as a healing potion, from the drunken guard. Enter the Power Station and you'll find a switch on the far end of the left turbine. Flip it and it makes the lights flicker. Whack the turbine a few times with your sword after flipping the switch and it shuts down. This turns off the chandelier and most of the lamps in the corridors on the main floor. Return to the other room, take another gold wine bottle (+50 = 100) from the shelves on the east wall then go through the door beside them. Climb the stairs and use the basement key to unlock the door at the top.

Main Floor

You'll find yourself in a storeroom that has a door opening into the kitchen on the right and a door opening into a hallway on the left. Go through the south doorway, across the hallway and into a pantry room. There are 2 healing fruit inside the chests on the right.

The other rooms on the south side of the hallway are just for storage and full of junk but if you enter the third one and click on the overturned bucket you'll acquire a purse (+100 = 200). Enter the room at the end of the hallway. On the left is a locked door that obviously requires a key and the note beside it says "Ask Captain Marley" so I guess you'll have to keep an eye out for him. Go back out to the hallway and open the door to your left.

This room is a large dining room which is fairly well lit even with the big chandelier turned off so you'll probably need to douse some torches. There's a light switch on the back of the NW pillar that turns on the small lamps. One of the women standing in this room will run over and flip the lights on if alerted then run out and get the guards so move quietly. Take a purse (+100 = 300) from the man standing north of the dining table and snatch the Guest Room key from the woman who is standing in the corner, admiring a statue. If she becomes alarmed, she runs to her room and locks herself in so this is your only chance to get it. Grab 2 gold wine bottles (+100 = 400), a gold plate (+50 = 450) and a gold goblet (+25 = 475) from the dining room table then go through the door on the east wall into the kitchen where you'll find a gold plate (+50 = 525) sitting in the sink. Take a healing fruit from the shelf near the door then check inside the fireplace and you'll see a ladder that leads to the roof. This is the way down into the kitchen if you chose the alternate rooftop entrance into the house. Pick up a healing fruit from a shelf and go through the north door into a hallway. There's a locked door at the east end that requires a key. The first room on the north side of the hallway is the Sergeant's room where you'll find a gold coinstack (+25 = 550) inside a locked chest. Read the book inside the other chest to find out some important information. Objective complete! At the same time, you receive a new objective to get the Golden Book. Click on the framed arms display to find the Armoury key.

A note is posted on the wall in the second room, which is a barracks, saying that the swordsman Tipper has been entrusted with the wine cellar key. There are broadhead arrows and a silver coinstack (+12 = 562) in the chests in this room.

The room next to this one is the servants' bedroom and here you'll find a note tucked behind one of the beds that says there's a purse ( which you've already picked up) hidden in one of the rooms on the south side of the castle. There's a silver coinstack (+12 = 574) squirreled away behind the southwest bed. Go into the attached bathroom and look into the toilet hole. You'll find the First Floor Key on the body of a drowned guard.

At the far end of the hallway is another locked door which unlocks with the key you just found and takes you into the front foyer. (This key also unlocks the door at the other end of this hallway which leads to the servants' stairs to the second floor.) Head through the door on the left into the dining room and exit through the door in the SW corner. You'll be back in the first hallway you explored. Turn to the right, go through the wooden door and unlock the Armoury door with the key you found earlier. There's a cryptic note on the table that says, "Fire. Walk with Me" as well as a mine and 3 moss arrows. Flip a lever on the bottom of the ceiling light fixture to open a secret panel in the wall that conceals a fire arrow (counts as 5). Return to the dining room and go through the big double doors into the front foyer. Pick up a ring (+100 = 674) that's been dropped on the floor behind the big plant to the right of the stairs.

Third Floor

Return to the dining room, shoot a moss arrow up onto the balcony then rope arrow up. One of the guards patrolling the balcony is wearing a purse (+100 = 774). The door on the north wall opens into a bathing room where you can pick up a water arrow from the tub and a speed potion from the edge. There's a tiny gold ring (+100 = 874) lying beside it.

East of this room is a large bedroom where you can acquire a vase (+50 = 924) and the Balcony key. The chest holds a gold coinstack (+25 = 949) and the key opens the locked door that leads onto the outside balcony. Go out and frob a lever above door to open a secret door in the bedroom. Climb the ladder inside the secret room to the top of the NE tower. There's nothing there. It's just another way into the house from the rooftop. Return to the bedroom and frob a switch on the floor underneath the south side of the bed to move one of the armoires. Concealed behind it is a wall safe that contains 4 gold coinstacks (+100 = 1049) and a tiara (+125 = 1174).

There's a bottle of wine (+50 = 1224) sitting beside the armchair in the garden at the east end of the balcony. The door that is just south of the garden opens into a sitting room, where you can pick up the Spiral Staircase key, a vase (+50 = 1274) and 2 coins (+10 = 1284). Frob a switch on the left (N) side of the fireplace mantle to open a secret door in the wall.

Climb the ladder inside to the top, turn around and flip a tiny switch on the edge of the floor to open a hatch above the ladder. (If you walk along the hallway here to another ladder and climb down it then flip a switch in the upper NE corner of the small room at the bottom you'll find a secret door into the basement storage room.) Above is the Observatory where you'll find the Key to Locked room and a note to read. There's an "Air" banner (None of the banners are present on Beginner and you can't get the Easter Egg associated with them.) on the wall but you don't have any gas arrows for now so you'll have to come back.

The door next to the one into the sitting room is locked. The end door opens into the Library. Turn left (S), go through a door and down a flight of spiral stairs. When you reach the bottom, walk around the central column and you'll see a ladder that leads up to the top of the NW tower where you'll find a silver coinstack (+1296). Return to the Library, close the door and look on the wall to the right of it, down near the floor, for a small switch. Flip it to open a secret door into the office. Read the book sitting on the desk and take a green rolled tapestry (+150 = 1446) from the top of the armoire. Head back into the Library and pick up a scroll sitting on a shelf. Read it and you'll see that it's a report from an Engineer. He mentions that there's a crack in the East wall and that the room should be locked and the key hidden. The door at the far north end of the Library unlocks with the Spiral Staircase key and leads to the second spiral staircase down to the second floor. Walk down the stairs and you'll find that there's another ladder inside the column at the base of the stairs that leads up to the top of another tower but there's nothing of value up here. Underneath the spiral stairs, you'll see a gold goblet (+25 = 1471) lying on the floor. Unlock the door with the Spiral Staircase key and you'll emerge on the second floor.

Second Floor

The door opposite opens into a music room where you can pick up a silver flute (+150 = 1621). Walk east along the hallway and take a purse (+100 = 1721) from the patrolling guard. The first room can be opened with your lock picks and you'll find a necklace (+200 = 1921) hidden underneath the potted plant.

The next room opens with the Guest Room key that you took from the lady downstairs. Inside you'll find a gold coinstack (+25 = 1946) in a box and a golden torc (+100 =2046) hanging on the bedpost. Next is a toilet, where you can pick up a ring (+100 = 2146) from the water and attached to it is a bathing room where you can grab a breath potion from a shelf and a water arrow from the bathtub water.

The next door opens onto a set of stairs that lead down to the main floor so skip it and walk south. Take a vase (+50 = 2196) from a hall table. This hallway ends at yet another hallway. The first door is locked and has a guard stationed outside of it. Skip it for now and explore the rest of the rooms along this hallway.

In the first room, grab two silver coinstacks (+24 = 2220) from the table. In the second room there's a note about the strange occurrence that happened to the Watchmaker and when you read it, you'll receive a new objective to find his pocket watch. Help yourself to his purse (+100 = 2320). Read a notice posted beside the third door that says a sapphire ring has been lost probably near the stairs to the second-floor. (You've already found the ring.) Enter the room and pick up a purple urn (+100 = 2420). The last door opens onto another set of stairs down to the lower floor.

Return to the locked door that the guard is standing outside of and unlock it with the Key to Locked room. Lean out the window and frob a switch which will open a secret door in the wall. Go through the door and down some stairs into a hallway. At the end, you'll see a Talisman holder facing you and a banner on the left that says "Fire" on it. Shoot it with a fire arrow then go down the stairs and shoot another fire arrow at the Talisman holder on the wall. This opens a door at the end of the hallway to the left but beware as the guards in there are also alerted by the blast.

Temple

Take 2 purses (+200 = 2620) from the guards then enter the barracks room in the north east corner where you'll find a gold coinstack (+25 = 2645) and a silver coinstack (+12 = 2657) in the chests. In between this room and the next is a small room with a practice dummy. The sign posted beside the door says "Stop breaking your swords." Whack the dummy a few times, go through another door and pick up 2 moss arrows from the top of a bookcase. The door beside it opens into the second barracks room where you'll find a gold coinstack (+25 = 2682) and a copper coinstack (+5 = 2687) in the chests. The east door in this room takes you into a small room with a ladder leading up. Climb it and take the north passageway to a room where you can pick up some broadheads from a chest.

Return to the main room and you'll find that the unfrobbable door in the SE corner of the main room is now open (You opened it when you smacked the training dummy) and behind it is a training room. Pick up a mine from the table and a healing potion from the bookshelves then shoot an arrow into the target. It flips down and behind it is a gold wine bottle (+50 = 2737). (On Insane, you will also find the Unknown key here.) Return to the main room and go through the east door in the north corner into a hallway. Open the door on the left-hand side and you'll find 2 chests which contain a rope arrow and healing fruit.

In the second room off of this hallway, there's a gem (+100 = 2837) stored in a locked chest. The door at the end of the hallway takes you back out into the main room. Open the door on your right and enter the library. Turn to the right and enter the first aisle. Frob a book on one of the shelves then quickly go to the end of the next aisle where a secret door opens but only for a moment. Get inside and take the Clock room key from the chest. There's a button above the right-hand side of the door that will reopen it if you get locked in.

Stroll back past the entry door and past the stairs to the upper level. Take a rolled up scroll from the top of a bookshelf and you'll see it's a map of the Temple. That could come in handy. Climb the stairs, read a book on a table and pick up the inkwell (+25 = 2862) then use the Clock Room key to open the locked door in the corner. Look behind the large gear leaning up against the wall to find the Watchmaker's lost Pocket Watch. Objective complete! Leave the Library, go over to the fountain and fish out a coin (+5 = 2867) then walk south to the last door on the west wall. Open it and enter the Laboratory.

Jump up onto the table and slash the periodical table poster. Flip the lever on the wall and a secret door will open in the wall to your left. Open the chest in the first room to pick up a silver nugget (+50 = 2917). Go through the end door, along a short hallway and into a small room where you'll find the Temple Key in a cashbox.

Head over to the north wall and unlock the west door with the Temple key. Open the chest to pick up a purse (+100 = 3017) then go through into the Temple but watch out for the Ice Keeper. There's a button in the middle of a tapestry above the other door that will turn out the lights which is helpful but they don't stay off for long. (On Beginner, the lights stay off.)  Frob a button hidden behind the statue that is facing the wall and one of the stained glass windows will slide up. Behind it is the Golden book of the Keeper. Objective complete! Rope arrow up into the rafters and you'll find a gold nugget (+100 = 3117) as well as a lever. (There is no lever on Beginner so you have no access to the entire water section of this FM. After acquiring the Golden book, you just need to go back up the stairs you came down to get into the Temple area, as the door to them does not close. Go back to where you began the mission and use the Keeper key to unlock the metal door. Follow the pathway to another metal door. Open it, enter a small Library where the Fire Keeper awaits and the mission will end.)  Flip the lever then climb back down to the Temple floor. Pick the Keeper key from the Ice Keeper, grab a gold candlestick (+50 = 3167) from the altar and go back to the side room. Peek out into the main room and you'll see there's trouble waiting! A whole line of guards are standing in the room, facing you. Run through the door and turn right. Go through the door into a hallway you've been in before and around to the north side where you'll see a small opening in the wall underneath a lamp that wasn't there before. (The lever above the Temple opened it.) Shoot the Water banner on the back wall with a water arrow then jump into the water below.

Water Area

Grab a ring (+100 = 3267) from the pile of bones on the floor, a jar (+20 = 3287) from behind the bars at the end of the east tunnel then head up for air. (On Insane, swim back down and over to the north gate. Use the Unknown key on the lockbox beside it to open it then go back up for air. Dive down and swim through the gate you just opened. At the end of the passageway, just before you swim into the room where you can see a plain wooden chest, grab a breath potion from the floor. Pick open the wooden chest and inside you'll find the Keeper's Talisman. Objective complete!) Swim back down and go through the west tunnel. Pick up a silver nugget (+50 = 3337) from the ledge along the left side and come up for air in the next room. Swim along the passageway where you'll find a body lying on the bottom wearing the Portcullis key. (This key is not here in Insane.) (On Hotshot, you can use the Portcullis key  to open the gate unlocked by the Unknown key on Insane. You'll  only find a breath potion in the footlocker there, which you'll have to use to get back out so there's really no point in bothering with it.)  Pick up 3 coins (+15 = 3352) that are lying on the floor near the body. Flip the lever to raise the gate and swim back to the corner for air.

Grab the crate floating here and swim back to the gate, which is stuck and only lifted a few inches. Throw the crate at it and it will collapse allowing you go continue on. In this area, there is some loot you can't pick up concealed behind a chest that contains a message that money is evil, a breath potion and health potion sitting beside the chest and the passageway up to the Lab. Swim back through the broken gate and down to the end to breathe.

Swim back along the passageway towards the gate but before you get to it, swim through a small hole in the right-hand (W) wall. Grab a coin (+5 = 3357) from the bottom along the way. When you surface in the room at the end, it looks like there's a ceiling but it's just ice. Jump a bit and hit it with your BJ to break it. Climb out and go through the SE passageway. You'll come upon 2 thieves standing by a fire. After their conversation, knock them out, take a fire arrow from the fire and help yourself to their loot pile, which consists of 3 jars (+60 = 3417). (When playing on Insane, you also need to take the Maze key from one of them.)

Exit from this cave through the hole in the west wall and you'll end up facing a metal door flanked by 2 statues. The Earth Banner is hanging on the wall here so shoot a moss arrow at it. The plaque on the floor says "Before entering this area, take your sword with another hand." Huh?? Hit the left-hand statue with your sword and a secret door opens in the wall. You can also open the metal door by frobbing it (The Maze key unlocks this door on Insane.) but there must be a reason for the secret door so head down that passageway and check it out.

Frob a lever on the wall at the end of the passageway to open another secret door and you'll see a ladder on your left but the hatch at the top is closed. Walk father along the passageway and you'll see a statue with a plaque at the feet that says "Only three out of four Disciples knew the WAY to heaven, and the Teacher took them with him." If you look down the hallway you'll see 4 statues, each with a name plaque on the floor in front of it. The names are Agon, Yorick, Walter and Roland. Since "WAY" is all in capitals, why not try frobbing the statues who's name begin with those letters? Walter, Agon and Yorick. (If you frob the wrong one by accident, you can reset them by frobbing the statue at the end of the hallway.) Once that's done, frob the Teacher statue and the hatch above the ladder will open.

The Maze

Before going up, walk back through the secret passageway and through the door you opened. As you enter the Maze, you'll receive a new objective to find a map. Turn left and follow the left wall. You'll find a chest with a gold coinstack (+25 = 3442) inside. Continue to follow the left-hand wall and you'll come to the skeleton of someone who got lost in here. Take his purse (+100 = 3542) since he has no further use for it and keep following the left-hand wall. You'll come to a pit in an alcove. Sink a rope arrow into the yellow decoration in the ceiling and climb down until you see a button on the east wall. Push it and climb back up. The map will be sitting on the floor at the top. Objective complete! Continue along the left wall and you'll see a chest across another pit. Use a rope arrow to get close enough to pick it open and your reward will be a gold nugget (+100 = 3642). Leave this alcove and walk north as far as you can. Turn right (E), left (N), left (W) and right (N). Walk to the end wall and turn left (W). You'll come to the door you entered the maze by.

Start following the right-hand wall and you'll come to a gap in the floor. Jump it and a little farther on, you'll find a chest with a gas arrow in it, which you need for the Air banner.

Jump back across the gap in the floor and turn right into the first passageway. Follow the right-hand wall until you're come to a face on the wall. Crouch to avoid an arrow trap ahead and go around the corner into an alcove where you'll find a chest that holds a gem (+100 = 3742). Turn around and follow the left-hand wall to the gap in the floor. Jump across and continue following the left wall to a door. Open it and you'll be back in the hallway of Statues. Pick up the gold statue (+75 = 3817) and a coin (+5 = 3822) that's under the Teacher statue then walk up to the ladder you found earlier and climb it.

Getting Out

You'll emerge in the maze outside the house. Go back inside and up to the third floor sitting room to the right (S) of the garden. Enter the secret passageway and climb up to the Observatory. Shoot the Air Banner with the gas arrow you found and you'll get a message to go to the front gate of Granite Castle. You'll be rewarded with a remarkable display of fireworks!

All that's left is to get out so go back into the hedge maze that is to the south of the front door and find the shed where you began the mission. Use the Keeper key to unlock the back door. Go through the tunnels and into a small Keeper library. Mission complete!
